Proofreading & Editing

After researching and preparing the content of their book, many of our clients want some reassurance that the content will read well and is sound both grammatically and structurally.

Nothing detracts more from the quality of a book than poor spelling and grammar and we can provide both proofreading and editing services to ensure that your book is the best it can be.

You can email your file for assessment and quotation here (up to 10mb).

1. Proofreading

This service provides a check of your manuscript for:

          1. Spelling & punctuation
          2. Grammar
          3. Uniformity of style

2. Editing

A general edit will provide a complete review of your manuscript to ensure that the document reads correctly and is structured properly. This service covers:

  1. Spelling & punctuation
  2. Grammar
  3. Sentence, paragraph & chapter structure
  4. Uniformity of style

How It Works

Using your Word file and the function Track Changes, we make corrections to your file. These corrections are highlighted in the margin so that once the file is returned to you, you are able to see everything that we recommend to be changed or reviewed.

You then have the option of accepting or rejecting each correction, or you can accept all changes with one keystroke.

This file then becomes the master file for production. Everything is done electronically so there is no paper wastage, however if you still require a paper proof you are able to print the file, showing all highlighted corrections & suggestions.

Page Layout & Cover Design

Once your manuscript is finalised, you basically have two options:

  1. Supply print-ready PDF files for your text and cover
  2. Supply a Word file from which we format your page layouts

1. Supply print-ready PDF file

Depending how computer savvy you are, you can choose this option. It is certainly the most economical as you don't have to pay someone to format your text, however there are issues which need to be taken into account and certain parameters which need to be followed. You will also need PDF-creating software which you can purchase and download from the internet.

2. Supply a Word file ready for Formatting

This is the option most of our clients choose which gives them the satisfaction of knowing that their book will be completed rather than sitting in the bottom drawer gathering dust. Pictures can be supplied as prints or already scanned and we place them in the text as required.

3. Preliminary Pages

When preparing your page layouts we also include preparation and insertion of the preliminary pages. These are:

Title Page

Imprint Page

4. Design Cover

From your ideas we then design your cover, providing three draft concepts from which you choose your preferred option. This is then worked on to incorporate what you like in the way of colour, layout, fonts etc. until you are happy with the look. The cover is a vital part of the book in its presentation to the reader and wider audience.

Assuming we prepare the page layouts for you, we can also provide indexing. This can be as detailed or as basic as you want. Most indexes refer only to names of people and places.

ISBN & Barcode applications

As part of the service we offer, we can obtain the ISBN and barcode for you and then insert into the appropriate positions in the text and cover.

Printing & Binding

From 10 copies to 10,000 copies we can print your book in black or CMYK. We also provide the options of section sewing, perfect binding, hard cover and soft cover copies.

Hard cover copies can be bound in book cloth, bound with a PLC (paper laminated cover) or presented with a dust jacket. (See samples)

Legal deposit

If your book has an ISBN you are required to deposit copies with Legal Deposit Libraries in Australia. As part of our service we take care of this for you.
